St. John Capistran Music Ministry
Get involved in the music ministry program at St. John’s! The music ministry program consists of four main ensembles. These are the Traditional Choir, Contemporary Choir, Handbell Choir and Children’s Choir. A brief description of each ensemble follows.

The Traditional Choir sings a wide repertoire of music ranging from classical to newly composed liturgical music. The four voice parts are represented: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. This choir is open to all high school age students and adults. The primary instrumental accompaniment is organ, piano, and on special occasions, strings, brass, and other instrumentalists to enhance the liturgy. The Traditional Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM in the church and sings at the 9:00 AM mass on Sundays from September through Pentecost.
The Contemporary Choir is also open to all high school age students and adults. This choir sings a repertoire of contemporary liturgical music and is accompanied by organ, keyboard, and guitar. The Contemporary Choir sings at the 11:00 AM mass on Sundays from September through Pentecost and rehearses on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM in the church.
The Handbell Choir is a group of women and men that perform a repertoire of music written for handbells, that enhances various special liturgies throughout the year. The Handbell Choir rehearses after the 11:00 AM mass on an as-needed basis during the choir season.
The Children’s Choir is open to all students from Grades 2-7 and sings for Christmas Eve and Mother’s Day. Rehearsals are held in November/December and April/May on Tuesdays from 5:45 – 6:30 PM in the church.
