- The “Bread of Life Mini-Series”...started last week, as we began a five-week reading from the sixth chapter of St. John’s Gospel, often call the “Bread of Life” chapter. We heard about a need, a miracle, and leftovers. Today, Jesus tells his disciples, “I am the bread of life.” Although God’s goodness provides us our earthly food, Jesus reminds us that his food, the Eucharist, is the food that truly satisfies the hungers of our heart. May we always appreciate so great a gift.
- Looking ahead… the Feast of the Assumption of Mary on August 15 this year IS a holy day of obligation for Catholics. We will have two masses on Wednesday, August 15: our usual 9:00 morning mass, and a mass at 7:30 p.m. (Please note that there is NOT a mass scheduled for Tuesday evening, August 14.)
- Confirmation date… We have received word that Bishop David Zubik will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for our young people here at St. John Capistran on Wednesday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m. As the date approaches, more information will be sent to those involved in the ceremony.
- The RCIA process… is for non-Catholic adults who wish to join the Catholic Church, or adult Catholics who have been baptized, but never received Confirmation or Eucharist. If you’d like to inquire about the process, contact Fr. Jim at the rectory. Spread the word! Nothing works better than a personal invitation to join the faith.
