No one knows the time or the hour. Throughout the centuries, countless people have tried to predict the end of the world even though the Scriptures tell us that this information is known by God alone. Instead of focusing on the end, we need to be people who change the present. This is our time.

As composer Stephen Sondheim wrote: “It's our time, breathe it in: there are worlds to change and worlds to win. It’s up to us to show them.”

In other words, if we continue to show the face of Jesus to all we meet and continue to work hard in his name to build a better world for all, we will be too busy to think about the end. The world needs our gospel focus now, not in some distant future. The end will come, but in God’s time not ours. So let’s keep busy about the work of God rather than being busy with needless predictions of when or how the end will come. Instead of looking for signs, let’s be the sign that God is love, God is here and God is good. Be a present for the present.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, we will give God thanks for all of his blessings to us. I personally will be most thankful for this wonderful community of faith that God has given me. You are truly the best and I am so blessed to have each and every one of you in my life. To quote Saint Paul from his letter to the Philippians: “I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you, praying always with joy in my every prayer for you because of your partnership for the Gospel. It is right that I should feel this way toward you because I hold you in my heart.” May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with God’s blessings. Enjoy your day with family and friends and let us hold each other with gratitude in our thoughts, our prayers and our hearts.
