- Jesus is the vine… and we are the branches. This beautiful image presented in today’s Gospel reminds us of the love that God has for us. In our second reading, St. John reminds us that we are to share this love “in deed and truth.” Let’s stay close to the vine, so that our love may grow.
- Important announcements… occur at the end of all of our masses this weekend about how the diocesan “On Mission for the Church Alive” effort will affect our parish. Bishop Zubik has also asked each parish to send the information in the mail to all parishioners this week and to reprint it in next weekend’s church bulletin. Next week’s “Pittsburgh Catholic” newspaper will have more information, and will be mailed to all registered parishioners later this week.
- Looking ahead… Ascension Thursday, a holy day of obligation, will be celebrated on May 10. We will offer two masses that day: our regularly scheduled mass at 9:00 a.m. and a mass at 7:30 p.m. (Note that there is NOT an anticipated mass scheduled on Wednesday evening May 9, since two masses are sufficient here at St. John Capistran for Holy Days of Obligation.)
- Now that CCD Classes are finished… we thank all the dedicated catechists and aides who gave so much of themselves to our children this past year. The sharing of your faith has been an immense gift! We’re especially grateful to Denise DeCapria, who does a fantastic job as our Director of Religious Education, and to our ever-faithful CCD Secretary, Mary Lou Rodgers. Thanks!
